Pat Hayes practiced in the patent profession for almost 60 years. He had vast experience in patent prosecution, litigation, and licensing and specialized in mechanical technologies, electromechanical technologies, electrical technologies, electronics and materials patents.

Before joining the firm, he served as counsel to Dr. Edwin Land, Polaroid, was Chief Patent Counsel for the Norton Company and Chief Patent Counsel for National Research Labs. He was on the Board of Editors for George Washington University Law Review, a member of the Advisory Council of the PCT Research Foundation, and was Lt. Commander, U.S. Naval Reserves 1941-1945.

He was a member of the District of Columbia Bar Association, American Intellectual Property Law Association, Boston Patent Law Association (President 1968-1969), and was a member of Phi Delta Phi.
